Restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services

SUPERB is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme under the topic “Restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services” of the call “Building a low-carbon, climate resilient future: Research and innovation in support of the European Green Deal (H2020-LC-GD-2020)“.

We work closely together with our sister projects MERLINWaterLANDS and REST-COAST, funded under the same call. Furthermore, we are exploring collaboration with EU-funded and other projects working on similar topics.

MERLIN project

The MERLIN project aims to mainstream transformative ecosystem restoration and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across all of Europe’s freshwater environments.

MERLIN aspires to go beyond mainstreaming business as usual to mainstreaming a transformation in our relationship with the freshwater environment as a response to the biodiversity and climate crises. This involves working at the landscape, regional, national and EU scales to understand how different public and private organisations can work together.

REST-COAST project

The project aims to demonstrate that upscaled coastal restoration can provide a low carbon footprint solution to climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction for threatened coastal systems, combined with gains in their biodiversity.

WaterLands project

WaterLANDS will contribute to the restoration of wetland sites across Europe which have been damaged by human activity and is laying the foundations for protection across larger areas.

FORWARDS project

FORWARDS is an EU-funded project that will prototype the ForestWard Observatory, a pan-European monitoring and evaluation tool that will help in demonstrating the impact of climate change on forests, guiding decision-making for practical forests management.
