Webinar: Evolution of Forest Restoration Approaches in Europe: What Can We Learn?

Forest restoration has long been a response to environmental challenges, evolving over time to address shifting ecological, economic, and societal needs. This talk explores how restoration approaches in Europe have developed over the past century—from early efforts to mitigate deforestation impacts to post-war timber production goals and the modern emphasis on multifunctionality.

In the upcoming Forest Restoration Talk, Maitane Erdozain Ibarra from Forest Sciences and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) will provide an overview of three key periods in European forest restoration, tracing the shifts in objectives and strategies over time. Katharina Lapin from Austrian Research Centre for Forests will then discuss insights from seven European countries, examining the drivers of degradation, successful restoration practices, and the role of policy and community engagement in shaping the future of forest restoration.

Join us for an engaging discussion on the lessons learned from past restoration efforts and their relevance for today’s environmental challenges!
